What is the PatrolSim™ simulator?
The PatrolSim™ Series 8 is the latest generation of Acron Aviation's Driver Training Solutions law enforcement driving simulator, built specifically to meet the demands of police officer training and certification. It is built around a modular, ergonomic driver compartment that is a faithful replica of an actual law enforcement vehicle, including a reconfigurable glass dash that accurately renders gauges and controls for multiple vehicle types, mirrors in the correct positions and adjustable, authentic lights and siren controls, and a push bumper consistent with standard patrol vehicle equipment.
The visual system uses Unreal Engine 5 graphics rendered at 4K resolution across three 55-inch 4K LED LCD wide-aspect monitors, delivering a sharp, immersive 180-degree field of view with high-resolution graphics that enable officers to read street signs, recognize changing road conditions, and scan for hazards at realistic viewing distances. The graphics quality directly supports training effectiveness by reducing eye strain and making the simulation environment feel genuinely real.
The physics engine accurately simulates the size, weight, turning radius, eye point, and tire and suspension characteristics of each vehicle type the simulator supports, automatically adjusting its behavior so that driving a patrol SUV feels different from driving a sedan, and both feel different from an unmarked unit. Force feedback in the steering column provides physical resistance that mirrors real vehicle steering, and the system can even simulate impacts such as curb strikes or minor collisions to reinforce safe driving habits.
