Three levels of EV training
LJ Create structures its Electric Vehicle Technology training around three curriculum levels that together provide complete coverage of EV knowledge and skills.
At the complete vehicle systems level, large panel trainers illustrate the operation of complete EV and hybrid vehicle systems. Students can operate each type of vehicle, measure what is happening during the various modes of operation, and troubleshoot common problems in a safe, instrumented training environment.
At the common EV sub-systems level, dedicated panel trainers provide each student with foundational knowledge and troubleshooting experience in the most critical EV sub-systems including motors and drives, batteries, and charging systems.
At the EV electrical and electronics fundamentals level, a desktop training system provides specific instruction and practice in the basic electrical and electronic skills that EV work requires, covering cables and cabling, circuit protection, conductors and insulators, voltage and current and resistance calculations, DC and AC signals, relays, passive and active components, electromagnetic devices, transducer operation, three-phase signal structure, and pulse width modulation.
EV desktop trainers
The Electric Vehicle Electronics Workstation (730-00) is the desktop training system for EV electrical and electronics fundamentals. It includes a desktop trainer, a component set, and a range of experiment cards covering electromagnetic devices, input transducers, bridge rectifiers and transistors, simple amplifiers, and pulse width modulation signal generation and analysis. This system provides the electrical foundation that students need to work confidently with EV systems at the panel trainer and complete vehicle levels.
The Electric Vehicle Electronics Trainer (730-10) is the introductory version of the same platform, allowing students to build a variety of introductory EV electronic circuits using on-board and carrier-mounted components before progressing to the more advanced experiment cards in the workstation.
EV systems panel trainers
The Electric Vehicle Systems Panel Trainer (740-01) provides students and instructors with the opportunity to demonstrate, investigate, and fault-find a simulation of the electrical system of a typical electric vehicle. A power flow mimic allows students to investigate the effects of regenerative braking. On-board diagnostics representing the OBDII system can be explored via the intelligent display panel. The trainer shows both the 12V and high-voltage systems with CAN integration throughout, simulated AC and DC charging, an HVAC system for cabin and battery cooling, and a schematic of EV circuits with test points for signal monitoring and fault-finding.
The EV Motors and Generators Panel Trainer (742-01) is focused on motor speed control, using a variety of sensors to feed back motor position and speed. The trainer illustrates electrical circuit operation under different conditions including throttle, brake, and drive select modes. It includes an inverter rectifier circuit for safe measurement of motor inputs, encoder, resolver, and hall effect disks for position and speed feedback, a simulated drivetrain showing motor speed control and the effects of regenerative braking, and test points throughout for signal monitoring and fault-finding.
The EV Batteries and Charging Panel Trainer (741-01) focuses on the operation, safety, structure, and limitations of EV batteries. Students investigate how battery temperature and efficiency are affected at differing levels of charge. Instructors can demonstrate regenerative charging and explore on-vehicle charging system operation.
The Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Panel Trainer (743-01) provides hands-on investigation of off-car charging systems, covering fast charge, trickle charge, and intelligent charging principles. The trainer includes an LCD screen to display charging station data, test points for signal monitoring and fault-finding activities, a simulated scan tool with real-world diagnostic codes, and reduced-voltage test points for safe student measurement.
Hybrid vehicle panel trainer
The Hybrid Vehicle Systems Panel Trainer (756-01) provides students and instructors with the opportunity to demonstrate, investigate, and fault-find a simulation of a hybrid vehicle electrical system. The trainer allows access to a simulation of mechanical operation through a planetary gear set, motor generator units with measurable 3-phase waveforms, high and low voltage system test points, a power flow mimic showing the balance between electrical and internal combustion power, a dashboard display, and fault insertion options to simulate real-world system malfunctions.
CAN systems desktop trainers
Three CAN system desktop trainers extend EV training into the networked vehicle systems that are integral to modern automotive electrical architecture. The Modern Starting and Charging Systems Trainer (720-02) focuses on CAN Data Bus systems as they apply to starting and charging. The Modern Auto Lighting Circuits Trainer (701-02) covers CAN-controlled lighting circuits with fault-finding activities. The Modern Auxiliary Systems Trainer (721-01) covers CAN Bus electric window, door mirror, seat, and central locking circuits.
